TL;DR The phone is awesome for durability, being waterproof, battery life, and the flashlight. The other features are good but I don’t see as much use out of them. Had to take a star off because of some software instability when the phone is left on for several days, leading to some features malfunctioning and app crashes.
While I don’t see it as a down side, this phone is both heavy and bulky.
Wear a belt if you keep it in your pants pocket.
For context, I work as an Automotive Technician, and I went through a few big brand phones over the course of the last year.
I initially purchased this phone after watching a Youtube video where this phone was sent out to be reviewed, no strings attached. In one part of the video, the youtuber was using the screen of the phone to hammer in 10d nails into a 4×4.
Seeing this display of durability, the massive flashlight on the back, and the numerous other interesting features, I looked up the phone, and purchased it as a Christmas gift to myself.
This phone is well worth the $320 I paid for it in my opinion, and has survived abuse that would have killed my last phone (a Samsung S10e) instantly.
This phone is extremely durable, I’ve lost count of how many times It’s taken abuse and survived, no worse for wear.
Between falling out of the engine bay of an SUV 8 feet up on a lift, having a truck tire dropped on it after it fell out of my shirt pocket onto the concrete floor, and falling into an catch pan during an oil change; getting absolutely drenched in scalding hot motor oil, I can endorse the claimed durability of this phone.
The built in flashlight is extremely bright and extremely useful, but has an annoying quirk I’ll get to later.
The cameras take good photos, but I rarely use the NV or wide angle cameras.
The battery life is phenomenal, I usually end up charging my phone about once a week with heavy use,
The IPx8 rating is awesome and means I can wash off the scunge that builds up on it from work in the sink.
The remote control feature is useful, but the app can be a little buggy.
The other features I don’t get much use out of, but they are nice to have.
The English in the inbuilt apps has some grammatical and structural errors, but is understandable.
The biggest issue I have with this phone is that after being on for several days it will start to have some pretty severe software issues. The flashlight will start randomly turning on throughout the day and night, inbuilt apps will start randomly crashing, and some other apps will exhibit buggy behavior until I restart it.
This is exceedingly annoying when the big flashlight that my family has nicknamed “Pocket Sunlight” awakens me at 4am for no reason.
Restarting the phone fixes all of these, but the aforementioned amazing battery life encourages me to be lazy and not restart it as often as I used to with my old phone.
I briefly had an issue with the fingerprint sensor not working correctly after the oil change incident, but it started working fine after a thorough washing, a software update, and being accidentally dropped again. I’m not sure which thing fixed it, but the problem only lasted two days and hasn’t come back.
The ‘Duraspeed Restrict” app was removing permissions on some apps I added to its whitelist, so I ended up disabling it.
Over all, I think this phone is a great deal for the money, especially if you are as hard on phones as I am, just be sure to restart it every few days.
