I’ve been using WACOM tablets exclusively for over 20 years, but this was my first combination monitor/drawing tablet vs one that acted as a USB input device. As such, I’m a newbie to the whole draw-on-screen thing, but I can tell you that I was very impressed with this tablet from a usability standpoint.
I use a Mac as my primary computer, and this was very easy to connect a single USB-C to USB-Cable to my desktop. The tablet includes a variety of cables that will let you connect most any computer to it, including a three connector cable marked as an extra in the box.
My Mac immediately saw it as a monitor and I was able to move it around in display settings so it became part of my 4 monitor setup. This helps, since the cursor is controlled just as it is using a mouse, so you can interact with the UI just as if you were moving and clicking the cursor manually. Download the software off the Ugee website and install it before you try doing anything significant with the tablet. It gives you full control of shortcut keys, and the buttons on the left of the tablet. You’ll need to reboot before it takes effect. The screen image is quite bright, colors are accurate and clean, and everything is very sharp. This is important, as any inaccuracy would directly affect the usefulness of the tablet.
Tracking is EXCEPTIONALLY ACCURATE. Lines appeared precisely where the pen touched the screen without needing adjustment after the initial setup. Photoshop and Illustrator worked great with the pen – pressure sensitivity let me vary the width, stroke, and heaviness of brush strokes exactly as it should have. Flipping the pen engaged the eraser, as expected. Overall, just a really good experience. The only real issue with the pen is there isn’t a real pen holder included. Get yourself one immediately – it makes keeping track of the pen much easier and allows you to easily grab it when you go to the tablet without digging for it on a cluttered desk.
Setup was straightforward. And I love that the pen is lightweight as a result of having no battery to be concerned with. No need to keep your stylus charged up, or having to wait for it to charge up because it ran out of juice in the middle of a job. The tablet comes with an adjustable metal stand that lets you control the angle of the tablet surface on your desk. It offers many angles, is easy to adjust, and is extremely stable to use.
Overall, I highly recommend this tablet, particularly at its reasonable price point. It is great to use, gives you a nice extra monitor, and has been a great tool for quick storyboarding, design, and photo editing using a variety of software options.
